Saturday Classes

for Children ages 2-7

The Mandarin Play and Learn programs are play based classes, designed for children ages 2-7, to learn Mandarin Chinese. Previous Chinese knowledge is not required or expected. The teachers facilitate the children’s learning through songs, games, stories, and other age appropriate activities.

Class Schedule:
Toddler classes for children ages 2 and 3 with an adult:
8:40-9:30 a.m. and 9:50-10:40 a.m.

Preschool classes for children ages 3-6:
8:40-9:30 a.m. – adults may accompany children in this class
9:50-10:40 a.m. – drop off class (parent volunteers are welcome)

The Fall 2007 session runs September 8 to December 15, 2007. There will be a total of 12 Saturday classes in this session. No classes are scheduled for October 6, November 10, and November 24.

Classes for children ages 4-7:
1:00-2:30 p.m. – drop off class

This session runs September 15 to December 15, 2007. There will be a total of 11 Saturday classes in this session. No classes are scheduled for October 6, November 10, and November 24.

About the Program:
Mandarin Play and Learn started in the fall of 2005, by parents interested in classes for their young children to learn Mandarin Chinese. It has grown into a collaborative community effort with local colleges/university, organizations, and individual families contributing resources and support. It has introduced the Chinese language and culture to children and their parents. It has also allowed those pursuing careers as teachers, an opportunity to practice and fine tune their skills. The program has expanded from its original one 1-hour class for ages 3-5 to its current five classes for children ages 2-7 and their families.

The afternoon class uses award-winning curriculum materials produced by Better Chinese (http://www.betterchinese.com) and is more structured than the morning sessions.

Location:
Classes are held at Miraloma Community Church, 480 Teresita Blvd. in San Francisco. Parking is available at the Church’s parking lot across the street on Arroyo.

Fees:
Morning classes -- $135 plus $25 registration fee*
Afternoon class -- $185 plus $50 materials fee and $25 registration fee*

* Registration fee is for new students to MP&L.
